Short Bio

Puneet Dwivedi has been a professor of Sustainability Sciences at the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources since 2013. He is also the Chief Executive Officer and Owner of Eco-Intelligence (www.eco-intel.us), a consulting firm committed to providing smart and equitable solutions for ensuring the sustainability of environmental resources worldwide. He has published about greater than 100 refereed articles focusing on the sustainable management of forest resources worldwide. He has secured several grants (about $5 million) to support his research program. He has advised 24 graduate students and four postdoctoral research associates as a major professor. He lives in Watkinsville, Georgia, with his wife and two daughters.


Long Bio

Puneet Dwivedi has been a professor of Sustainability Sciences at the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources since 2013. His research focuses on the sustainability of agriculture, forestry, and energy resources. He specializes in economic modeling, environmental modeling, life-cycle assessment, land use change modeling, ecosystem services, and rural landowners. He uses advanced tools and techniques for extending existing research frontiers for effective decision-making at the policy level. He is also the Chief Executive Officer and Owner of Eco-Intelligence (www.eco-intel.us), a consulting firm committed to providing smart and equitable solutions for ensuring the sustainability of environmental resources worldwide. He has published about 100 refereed articles focusing on the sustainable management of environmental resources, in general, and forest resources, in particular. He has secured several competitive grants (about $5 million) across federal and state agencies, trusts, non-profits, and endowments to support his research at the University of Georgia. For his research accomplishments, he was awarded the 2020 Creative Research Medal by the University of Georgia and the 2019 Award of Excellence in Research and Development by the Southeastern Society of American Foresters. In 2018, he received the University of Georgia Office of Sustainability Outstanding Faculty Award for his commitment to teaching and mentoring students in sustainable development. He has advised 24 graduate students (10 M.S. and 14 PhDs) and four postdoctoral research associates as a major professor. He has also mentored 12 undergraduate students for the University of Georgia Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities, out of which two students have received the Best Paper Award. He also teaches several courses at the University of Georgia and uses innovative pedagogy techniques for enhancing the learning outcomes of the student. In 2022, he was nominated for the University of Georgia Creative Teaching Award by the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. In 2003, he finished his Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical) degree at the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Devi Ahilya University. In the same year, he started his MBA program at the Indian Institute of Forest Management and finished it in 2005. Before starting his doctorate program at the University of Florida (2006 – 2010), he worked for a year at the Winrock International India as a Program Officer in the Natural Resource Management Division. Before starting the faculty position at the University of Georgia (2013 – present), Dr. Dwivedi worked at Yale University (2010 – 2012) and the University of Illinois (2013 – 2013) as a Postdoctoral Research Associate undertaking cross-cutting research at the interface of people, planet, and prosperity. Currently, he lives in Watkinsville, Georgia, with his wife and two daughters. In his free time, he enjoys reading current affairs, non-fiction, gardening, and devising ways to fasten the composting process in his backyard.
