Catherine (Katie) Cooper Started: Summer, 2021

At Sustigators®, Katie’s research focuses on the tradeoffs between forestland and solar power generation as it relates to water quality, carbon sequestration, and economic viability. Her other research interests are environmental policy and sustainable practices. Katie received her BS (2016) in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia.

Anna Ellis Started: Spring 2021

At Sustigators®, Anna’s research focuses on documenting the challenges faced by minority, beginning, and young logging business owners in Georgia and Florida, and assessing the succession plans of logging business owners who are approaching retirement. Her research interests are business succession planning, business owner demographics, and barriers of entry for minority owners within the logging industry. Anna received her BS (2020) in Forestry and Applied Ecology from Michigan Technological University.

Jacqueline (Jax) Miner Started: Summer 2020

At Sustigators®, Jax’s research focuses on assessing stakeholder perspectives of female forest landowner’s challenges and opportunities in forestland management as well as identifying management motivations of female forest landowners. Her research interests are sustainability, human dimensions, and sustainable forestry. Jax received her BSed (2020) in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Georgia. Caroline Karnatz Fall 19 – Spring 21

At Sustigators®, Caroline’s research focused on assessing the impact of Sustainable Forestry Initiative Fiber Sourcing Standard on biodiversity in the Southeastern United States and analyzing the portrayal of forest certification in media. Her research interests are wildlife biology, ecology, sustainability, and human dimensions. Caroline received her BA (2018) in English from Georgia College & State University and MS (2021) from the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. Her research interests are forest economics, agroforestry, forest carbon modeling, environmental planning and management. Surendra Shrestha Fall 14 – Spring 16

At Sustigators®, Surendra’s research focused on assessing the production of wood pellets on the water availability in Oconee River Basin in Georgia. His research interests focus on the investigation of forest ecosystem carbon, water, and energy dynamics following forest disturbance events by using field-based measurements, remote sensing, and modeling.
