Dr. Puneet Dwivedi

Since 2013, Puneet Dwivedi is a Professor of Sustainability Sciences at the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. He is also the Chief Executive Officer and Owner of Eco-Intelligence (www.eco-intel.us), a consulting firm committed to providing smart and equitable solutions for ensuring the sustainability of environmental resources worldwide. He has published about 100 refereed articles focusing on the sustainable management of forest resources worldwide. He has secured several grants (about $5 million) to support his research program. He has advised 24 graduate students and four postdoctoral research associates as a major professor. He lives in Watkinsville, Georgia, with his wife and two daughters.

Dr. Anne Mook

At Sustigators®, Dr. Anne Mook’s research is enhancing our understanding of the factors which affect the participation of female forest landowners in sustainable forestry. Her research interests are environmental justice, the political economy of development, gender and race, and research methods. Dr. Mook received her MA (2014) in International Studies from the University of Wyoming and Ph.D. in Sociology (2019) from the University of Florida. Dr. Yu-Kai Huang

At Sustigators®, Dr. Yu-Kai Huang’s research is enhancing our understanding of the economic and environmental tradeoffs related to regional and state water policies in light of direct and indirect land use changes. His research interests are environmental and resource economics, climate change economics, and energy economics. He specializes in advanced econometrics, optimization modeling, and simulation techniques. Dr. Huang received his M.Sc. (2014) in Agricultural Economics at National Taiwan University and Ph.D. in Resource and Environmental Economics (2021) at Texas A&M University. Dr. Farhad Masum

At Sustigators®, Dr. Farhad Masum’s research focused on the economics and carbon benefits of using carinata-based sustainable aviation fuel in the Southeastern United States. His research interests are bioenergy, carbon emissions, and natural resource economics. He specializes in techno-economic analysis, lifecycle analysis, optimization modeling, and simulation techniques. Dr. Noah Goyke

At Sustigators®, Dr. Noah Goyke’s research focused on assessing the extent of heirs’ property among African American family forest landowners and its impact on sustainable forestry practices and successional planning. His research interests are private land use, intergenerational land transfer, and forestland ownership. He specializes in ethnographic interviews and mixed-methods techniques. Dr. Goyke received his MS (2017) from Michigan Technological University, where he was a part of the Peace Corps Masters International Program. Hosne Ara Akter Ratri Started: Spring 2022

At Sustigators®, Hosne’s research focuses on assessing the impacts of climate change on forestry infrastructure and the role of forestry residues in meeting the demand for sustainable aviation fuel over space and time. Her research interests are forest economics, agroforestry, forest carbon modeling, environmental planning and management. Rafia Rahman Started: Spring 2022

At Sustigators®, Rafia’s research focuses on assessing the relationship between small- and medium-sized forest landowners and timber harvesting businesses, analyzing the correlation between procurement practices of mills and timber harvesting business formation and retention, and developing a timber harvesting cost estimation model for the Piedmont and Coastal Plain regions of the US South. Her research interests are forest management, forest operations, and forest engineering. Manuja Aparekke Started: Spring 2022

At Sustigators®, Manuja’s research focuses on investigating the impacts of COVID-19 on family forest landowners and the corporate social responsibility practices of forestry corporations located in the Southern United States. His research interests are human dimensions of the environment, environmental communication, and corporate social responsibility practices in the forestry industry. Asiful Alam Started: Spring 2021

At Sustigators®, Asiful’s research focuses on assessing the impact of extreme weather events (i.e., hurricanes) on forest resources in the Gulf Coast of the Southern United States. His research interests are land use modeling, transportation GIS, climate resiliency, and natural resources management. Kanchana Balasubramanian Started: Spring 2021

At Sustigators®, Kanchana’s research focuses on assessing the trade-offs of forest-based ecosystem services based on socio-ecological perceptions and predicted forest cover change in the Southern United States. Her research interests are nature-based solutions, forest and landscape restoration, ecosystem service trade-offs, urban forestry, socio-ecological systems and forest governance. Parag Kadam Started: Fall 2019

At Sustigators®, Parag’s research focuses on assessing forest governance by understanding the trends in forest management standardization and its impact on forest resources. His research interests are centered around sustainable forest management, market-driven conservation, political ecology, climate change governance, and forest business. Kazi Ullah Started: Fall 2018

At Sustigators®, Kazi’s research focuses on modeling adoption and supply chain of carinata as a potential crop for sustainable aviation fuel production in the Southern United States. His research interests are urban studies, natural resource management and geospatial data sciences. Omid Karami Fall 17 – Summer 21

At Sustigators®, Dr. Karami’s research focused on assessing the environmental and economic impacts of carinata-based sustainable aviation fuel production in the Southeastern United States. His research interests are bioenergy economics, water economics, and non-market valuation. Ranjit Bawa Fall 17 – Spring 21

At Sustigators®, Dr. Bawa’s research focused on modeling and assessing tradeoffs between economic benefits and ecosystem services associated with land use change in the Southeastern United States. His research interests consist of non-market valuation of ecosystem services, related work exploring emerging applications in the pricing of natural capital as well as contemporary trends shaping the global trade in non-timber forest products (NTFPs). Fabio Secanho Fall 17 – Fall 20

At Sustigators®, Dr. Secanho’s research focused on applying advanced GIS and spatial statistics techniques to quantify and map the provision of ecosystem services by protected and non-protected areas within the Upper Chattahoochee Watershed, which provides most of the drinking water to the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. Dr. Secanho’s technical expertise includes the development of complex spatial models, map development, optimization models, and remote sensing. Arundhati Jagadish Fall 14 – Spring 18

Anna Ellis Started: Spring 2021

At Sustigators®, Anna’s research focuses on documenting the challenges faced by minority, beginning, and young logging business owners in Georgia and Florida, and assessing the succession plans of logging business owners who are approaching retirement. Her research interests are business succession planning, business owner demographics, and barriers of entry for minority owners within the logging industry.
